Access to clean water is a basic necessity that is vital for maintaining the health and well-being of society. However, for some communities in Indonesia, this basic need is not easily fulfilled. One such community is Pedukuhan Gunung Cilik, located just 20 km from the center of Yogyakarta city. Despite its close proximity to the urban center, residents in this community face difficulties in accessing clean water, especially during the dry season.
Recognizing the urgent need for clean water in this community, BCA (Bank Central Asia), in collaboration with the Association of Retired Bank Indonesia Employees (PPBI), took an active step to build a clean water installation in Pedukuhan Gunung Cilik. The installation will maintain the availability of clean water for 70 households in the area, providing much-needed relief to the community.
According to BCA Independent Commissioner Cyrillus Harinowo, "Clean water is a basic necessity that is very important in maintaining the health and well-being of society. For urban communities, the availability of clean air is a common thing. However, ironically, although only about 20 km away from the center of Yogyakarta city, residents in Pedukuhan Gunung Cilik still have difficulties in obtaining clean water every year, especially during the dry season. Therefore, BCA took the initiative to build a clean water installation to provide easier access for the surrounding community."
The joint effort between BCA and PPBI is a shining example of corporate social responsibility in action. By taking an active role in providing access to clean water, these organizations are not only fulfilling a basic need but are also empowering communities and improving their quality of life. This initiative serves as a reminder that we can all play a part in making the world a better place, one community at a time.
