Last Friday, we helped one of our retainer clients Gojek, a subsidiary of PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (IDX: GOTO), make waves in the transportation industry with the official launch of GoRide Transit—a groundbreaking solution that seamlessly integrates multiple modes of travel.

In a bold move that's set to revolutionize on-demand services, Gojek has introduced GoRide Transit, a multimodal travel solution that effortlessly blends private ride-hailing services with public transportation. This cutting-edge service enables consumers to book an entire multimodal journey in a single transaction, encompassing GoRide rides to and from train stations, as well as trips on the KRL Commuter line, making Gojek the global pioneer in this revolutionary approach.

The rollout of GoRide Transit commenced quietly in early September 2023, and it was officially unveiled at the prestigious "Hub Space X KAI Expo 2023" exhibition, hosted by the Ministry of Transportation Republic of Indonesia.

Patrick Walujo, CEO of GoTo Group, emphasized the strategic importance of GoRide Transit, stating, "GoRide Transit is a pivotal component of our strategy to expand our market reach, particularly among value-conscious consumers. It also aligns perfectly with the Government's ongoing efforts to boost public transport ridership in Indonesia, a move that will contribute significantly to reducing the country's carbon emissions in line with GoTo's Three Zeros commitments."

Catherine Sutjahyo, President of On-Demand Services at GoTo Group, underscored the company's commitment to enhancing the lives of Indonesian consumers, saying, “The launch of GoRide Transit reaffirms our position as trailblazers in multimodal mobility solutions. It is a testament to our continued commitment to provide services that offer unmatched value and convenience to our users.”

GoRide Transit brings several compelling benefits to consumers:

1. Affordability: By fusing private ride-hailing services with public transportation, consumers can enjoy substantial cost savings, particularly on longer journeys from suburban areas to Jakarta's bustling downtown. Research conducted by the Center for Transportation and Logistics Studies at Gadjah Mada University (PUSTRAL UGM) suggests that GoRide Transit can slash the cost per trip by up to 27% compared to previous travel methods.

2. Speed: The integration of public transport into daily commutes results in reduced travel times for consumers. PUSTRAL UGM's research reveals that GoRide Transit users experienced a 15% reduction in travel time compared to other transportation options.

3. Convenience: Booking an end-to-end trip through a single transaction has never been more convenient. GoRide Transit offers multiple cashless payment options and serves as a comprehensive trip planner, providing valuable information such as estimated travel times, recommended routes, station locations, and step-by-step guidance on accessing GoRide last-mile services.

Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, welcomed this innovative collaboration between public and private transportation operators, highlighting its potential to create a safer, more comfortable, and efficient transportation system for the community. Sumadi also expressed the Ministry of Transportation's ongoing commitment to fostering innovations like GoRide Transit, which effectively addresses transport connectivity challenges in urban areas.

Furthermore, a research study conducted by PUSTRAL UGM has revealed that Gojek's multimodal trip planner solution, launched in July 2022, not only increased public interest in public transportation but also led to a remarkable 38.3% surge in Commuter line usage among Gojek users compared to their pre-solution travel patterns. Additionally, it played a pivotal role in reducing emissions from private vehicles, amounting to a substantial 5,057 tons throughout 2022.

Gojek's GoRide Transit represents a major milestone in the world of on-demand services, reshaping the way commuters experience convenience, affordability, and efficiency in their daily journeys. This achievement underscores Gojek's unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of its users and propelling Indonesia's transportation landscape toward a greener, more interconnected future.
