In a remarkable collaboration, PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT) and Gadjah Mada University's Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UGM) have once again joined forces to organize the highly-anticipated PKT-GAMA Business Case Competition (BCC). This thrilling event aims to prepare undergraduate and graduate students from universities across Indonesia to become the next generation of leaders in the digital era, with a particular focus on fostering sustainability in the agribusiness sector through the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices.

Embracing the theme "Agribusiness Sustainability through ESG Development," the PKT-GAMA BCC 2023 provides an exciting platform for students to not only showcase their practical business skills but also receive systematic guidance on the best industry practices. The competition serves as a launching pad for participants to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired during their academic journey and deliver captivating business analyses and innovative ideas to impress industry professionals and key stakeholders.

During the grand opening ceremony on July 5, 2023, Rahmad Pribadi, the CEO of PKT, underscored the importance of transcending profit-oriented mindsets by placing equal emphasis on environmental sustainability. Pribadi expressed the desire to inspire the young participants to become trailblazing innovators, harnessing their expertise to enhance industrial processes' effectiveness and efficiency while championing the cause of environmental preservation.

PKT is a strong advocate of ESG practices, integrating them into all aspects of its operations. The company has taken significant steps to reduce carbon emissions and develop eco-friendly commodities. These efforts have resulted in impressive financial success, with a net profit of Rp 14.59 trillion in 2022. PKT's commitment to ESG has earned them recognition as a top player in ESG Risk Rating among global agrochemical companies. They have also achieved a commendable ESG Rating, showcasing their ability to manage financial risks related to ESG factors.

The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of Perry Warjiyo, the Governor of Bank Indonesia, who wholeheartedly supported the competition. Warjiyo emphasized the indispensability of innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship in the younger generation. He hailed the PKT-GAMA BCC as a pivotal platform that fosters these traits and promotes the development of entrepreneurial talents in the agribusiness sector, thus propelling Indonesia's economic growth while ensuring a harmonious balance with the environment.

The PKT-GAMA BCC, spanning from July to August 2023, marks a fruitful collaboration between the academic and agribusiness realms. As the second edition of this competition, it solidifies the bridge between theoretical knowledge and practical application, equipping students with the skills needed for their future professional endeavors. PKT and FEB UGM's joint effort reflects a strong commitment to nurturing young talents who will drive the sustainable agribusiness sector, thereby fortifying Indonesia's food security.
