In an annual nationwide survey conducted by Frontier, the independent research firm, the Top Brand accolade serves as a key barometer for gauging a brand's performance. It not only recognizes past achievements but also provides insights into future prospects through the measurement of the Top Brand Index (TBI).
The comprehensive Top Brand survey, carried out simultaneously in 15 major cities including Jabodetabek, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Medan, Palembang, Makassar, Pekanbaru, Denpasar, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Samarinda, and Manado, engaged a significant respondent base of 12,000 individuals. The survey comprised 8,000 randomly selected respondents for the Top Brand Award Phase II-2023, 1,800 random samples from the retail sector, and an additional 2,200 booster samples.
Covering an extensive range of 324 product categories such as food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, personal care, sports equipment, office supplies, electronics, household products, home furnishings, automotive, building materials, real estate, agriculture and plantations, retail, and more, the Top Brand Index evaluation employed three crucial parameters.
The first parameter, known as top of mind awareness, assessed the brand that respondents spontaneously mentioned upon hearing the respective product category. The second parameter, last used, identified the brand most recently consumed or utilized by respondents within a single re-purchase cycle. Lastly, future intention gauged the brand that respondents expressed a desire to use or consume in the future. Each parameter's value for a particular brand within a specific product category was determined by calculating the brand's frequency relative to the overall frequency of all brands.
The Top Brand Index was derived by computing the weighted average of each parameter. To be recognized as a Top Brand, brands had to meet two criteria: first, achieve a minimum Top Brand Index of 10.0%; and second, rank within the top three positions based on the survey results within their respective product categories. It is worth noting that multiple brands, up to a maximum of three, could earn the prestigious "Top Brand" distinction within a single product category.
