Bundamedik Healthcare System Celebrates 50 Years of Transforming Healthcare in Indonesia with ‘The New BMHS’

Indonesian healthcare provider PT Bundamedik Tbk (BMHS, Bundamedik Healthcare System) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Starting out as a birthing clinic, the company has transformed itself aggressively over the past five decades by prioritizing the expansion of its innovative and integrated healthcare ecosystem. In addition to expanding its network of hospitals, BMHS has also developed cutting-edge healthcare products and services that support all stages of life, from embryo to adulthood.

As it enters its golden years, BMHS is poised to set a new standard for healthcare excellence in Indonesia with the introduction of "The New BMHS," which focuses on healthcare lifestyle. "This 50-year milestone is ample time for BMHS to prove its fundamental resilience as a company," said Nurhadi Yudiyantho, Managing Director of PT Bundamedik Tbk. "Over the past 50 years, we have focused on building a leading-edge healthcare ecosystem that is oriented toward modern medical technology, and we are proud to have led the transformation of healthcare services in this industry. With that experience, expertise, and ecosystem, we are now focused on introducing The New BMHS, which will bring a new and advanced standard of healthcare services, with a focus on healthcare lifestyle."

The trend toward healthcare lifestyle, or health as a lifestyle, is on the rise during the transition to endemic status. This trend is not only evident in metropolitan cities like Jakarta but also in other major cities such as Palembang, Padang, and Denpasar. To accommodate this trend, BMHS has begun implementing healthcare lifestyle in several services and products, such as medical tourism and morula food.

Despite the ongoing challenges in the healthcare industry due to the dynamic preferences of people in the post-pandemic era, BMHS remains optimistic about achieving positive results in 2023. In addition to optimizing the fundamentals developed during the pandemic, the company's focus will be on strengthening resources and adopting technology, as well as implementing initiatives that support the potential for medical tourism in Indonesia.

"From a growth perspective, BMHS prioritizes measured growth for 2023," explained Dr. Ivan Sini, Chairman of PT Bundamedik Tbk. "BMHS's focus will be on the operational side, as a form of implementation of the investments made earlier, by prioritizing the digital platform that has been built. During the pandemic, BMHS also prepared its fleet, such as adding facilities and launching medical tourism with patients from Australia and New Zealand."

BMHS closed out 2022 with revenues of Rp 1.66 trillion, a 12% decrease compared to 2021. However, the company's main business revenue (Non-Covid) increased by 17% compared to 2021. This revenue is still supported by the significant development of the company's core business, particularly the operational unit of hospital businesses, which continues to grow, Morula IVF as the market leader in Indonesia's IVF services, which is expanding nationally, and Diagnose, which is growing rapidly through its ability to develop non-Covid testing services and strategic partnerships.

"The increasingly competitive industry landscape motivates BMHS to continue demonstrating its capacity. As a top-five healthcare provider, BMHS's market reach will be sharper, and the industry it targets will be broader, including medical tourism. In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of BMHS, we are committed to delivering next-level healthcare services that will be the leading and high-quality healthcare services for more people," concluded Dr. Ivan.
